Apple introduced the iPhone 17 series at its "Awe Dropping" event on Tuesday, featuring four models including a new ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, upgraded displays across the board, and advanced camera systems, while maintaining pricing consistent with the previous generation.

The lineup replaces the iPhone Plus with the iPhone 17 Air, described by Apple as its thinnest device yet at 5.6 millimeters thick and weighing 165 grams.

All models support wireless MagSafe charging and promise extended battery life, with the base iPhone 17 and Air offering "all-day" performance, and the Pro models up to 39 hours of video playback. Pre-orders open Friday, September 12, with availability starting September 19 in over 63 countries, including the U.S., China, and the UK.

he standard iPhone 17 features a 6.3-inch ProMotion display with always-on capability, a first for non-Pro models, and a brighter panel reaching up to 3,000 nits. Its camera array includes a 48-megapixel main sensor, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 12-megapixel macro lens, paired with a front-facing square sensor for versatile selfies. The device is protected by Ceramic Shield 2 for improved durability and scratch resistance.

Powered by the A19 chip on 3nm technology, it starts with 256GB storage—double the prior base—and includes 8GB RAM, with neural accelerators for on-device AI processing via iOS 26. The iPhone 17 Air introduces a titanium-aluminum frame and a 6.6-inch ProMotion display, also with a "plateau" design integrating the front and rear cameras with the Apple Silicon. It runs on the A19 Pro chip, Apple C1X modem, and 12GB RAM, maintaining the all-day battery claim. Apple positions it as an exploration of slim design trends rather than a direct Plus successor.

For premium users, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max sport redesigned camera bars spanning the phone's width, with a 48-megapixel triple system offering 1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x optical zoom, plus 8K video recording. Both include an Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip for enhanced connectivity, brighter displays, and vapor chamber cooling for better heat management. The Pro has a 6.3-inch screen, while the Pro Max measures 6.9 inches, both with Ceramic Shield 2 and increased durability.

Pricing remains steady: iPhone 17 at $799 (256GB base), iPhone 17 Air at $999, iPhone 17 Pro at $1,099, and iPhone 17 Pro Max at $1,199. Colors vary by model—iPhone 17 in black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white; Air in space black, cloud white, light gold, and sky blue; Pro and Pro Max in blue, cosmic orange, and silver. Apple noted tariff-related costs from U.S. policies on China and India, totaling $800 million in the June quarter and projected $1.1 billion for September, but these did not impact launch prices.

The event also extended free satellite access for iPhone 14 and 15 users by one year for devices activated before September 9. Accessories like the iPhone 17 Clear Case with MagSafe and Silicone Case in multiple colors were announced alongside.
